May Potluck Decorations and Food Ideas ~ Fellowship Committee Schedule ~ Spring Flowers, Ice Cream Buffet and Snow?
The May Potluck is designed to be all about Spring, spring food, spring decorations, and spring weather. However, spring of 2016 on May 15, our church’s may potluck with an almost all-day snow storm. Now the weather has been fairly warm up until May 15 for the month of May, so the snow did not stick, but it was windy and chilly and there was a lot of snow falling.
I started with my Cricut Expression Air two weeks before the potluck and started creating a happy spring banner, Spring tulips, and butterflies. We brought out the spring flowers for the vases and some happy spring pinwheels.
Two of our young girls help set out all the decorations and the tables looked beautiful. It may have been winter outside but it sure looked and felt like spring inside. I was so excited with how the decoration worked out. I also made a doily cut as large as my 12×12 Cricut cutting pad would hold that made an elegant base on the tables for the vases.
We set our usual buffet table, the committee did again provide the mac & cheese and lasagna. But for dessert, we had a cake dedicated to one of our youth leaders who was leaving and ice cream with plenty of toppings. In the past years, we have found that our church members love a good ice cream bar with plenty of toppings. We provided whipped topping, chocolate sauce caramel sauce, marshmallow fluff, sprinkles and lots of ice cream. We let the adult scoop their own ice cream and serve their cake, however, we did have a committee member there to help the younger children.
We had almost a full committee of helpers this month and the setup and clean up when quicker than ever. This potluck had 55 parishioners including the fellowship committee attend the potluck and a lot of people lingered and stayed to talk and fellowship. There was a lot of talk about our new softball league that the church just started this spring. Thanks to our newest committee member got the ball rolling on this activity, pun intended. They have had a lot of fun and even one win.
