The Best Easy Christmas Cut Out Cookie Recipe

A light vanilla butter cookie perfect to use for any roll & cut out cookie.  Our family has used this recipe from the late ’50s from our Church Cookbook. Special Thanks to Mrs. Mildred Hubach from the Church in Aurora

Ingredients

Cookie Recipe:

  • 1 cup butter (softened)
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups of flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp Salt

Frosting Recipe:

  • 6 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 cups of confectioners sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°
  2. Cream together butter & sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs, vanilla to the butter & sugar.
  4. Sift together the flour, baking powder & salt.
  5. Mix together the flour mixture into the butter mixture. Do not overwork.
  6. Cover & Chil the dough
  7. When the dough is firm but not too firm, roll out to 1/8 thickness, and cut with your favorite cookie cutters.
  8. Lightly butter your baking pan.
  9. Place cookies about 1 inch apart and bake for 9 minutes.
  10. If you are making with sprinkles, decorate with sprinkles before baking.
  11. Cookies should be light, not overcooked.
  12. Place on Cooling Rack and cool completely.
  13. If using frosting, cool completely before frosting.

For Frosting:

  1. Placed softened 6 tablespoons of butter in a mixer with 2 cups of confectioners sugar and beat until fluffy. Add milk a little at a time as needed to get the correct consistency.

Notes

  1. Update on 12-11-22: Flour is 2 & 1/2 cup of flour
