A Georgia Road Trip and the Best Homemade Peach Ice Cream

Nothing says summer like the rich, sun-kissed taste of fresh peaches when summer turns to peach season.  And if you can get your peaches locally from a local farm, they are even fresher.

I was a teenager when my friend Linda and I traveled to Florida with my Aunt Lois and Uncle. On the way down, we stopped to visit my Uncle’s family in Georgia and stayed the night right there in the family trailer.

The family had the most beautiful country home, and one of their favorite evening activities was making homemade peach ice cream in a traditional ice cream maker with rock salt. They even had their own peach trees right on the property, and those fresh picked peaches went straight into the ice cream maker. It was absolutely delicious, creamy, and made with the freshest Georgia peaches you have ever tasted.

They lived in Cowpens, Georgia, a town rich in history with a statue marking the site of a Civil War battle right there in town. That memory has stayed with me all these years, and every time peach season rolls around, I think of that warm Georgia evening and that incredible homemade peach ice cream.

This trip and their homemade peach ice cream inspired me to create this low-carb, high-protein peach dessert recipe.

Why Creating Delicious Food With Your Family Matters

What I love most is knowing I’m feeding my family something made with whole, real ingredients—nothing artificial, just pure goodness. It’s also such a fun way to get the kids involved in the kitchen. From shopping for the fruit to watching the Ninja Creami machine spin it into frozen yogurt, your family will have so much fun—and you will feel good knowing we’re creating healthy food together at home.

Making homemade ice cream with the kids is one of my personal favorites—especially when I know it’s packed with whole ingredients and free of refined sugar. The creamy texture is just as satisfying as anything you’d buy in a store, and the best part is you can use either fresh or frozen fruit, depending on what you have on hand.

I love using monk fruit sweetener instead of sugar for a naturally sweet twist, and you can choose fat free milk or whole milk, depending on how rich and creamy you want your final dessert to be.

How to Make Creamy, Delicious Frozen Peach Yogurt

  1. Mix your base. In a medium bowl, combine the 2 containers of Chobani Zero Sugar Peach Greek Yogurt, 1/2 cup of FairLife fat-free milk, 1/8 teaspoon of xanthan gum, and 1/4 cup of monk fruit sweetener. Whisk everything together until smooth and well combined. Pro tip: Make sure the xanthan gum is fully dissolved before adding the peaches so you get an even, creamy texture throughout.
  2. Add the peaches. Fold in 1 cup of fresh or frozen chopped peaches and stir to distribute evenly through the yogurt base.
  3. Freeze your pint. Pour the mixture into your Ninja Creami pint container, place the lid on securely, and freeze on a level surface for 24 hours. Pro tip: A level freeze is the secret to an even spin, so do not skip this step.
  4. Prep the pint. When you are ready to enjoy your frozen yogurt, set the pint on the counter for 5 to 10 minutes. Then run the outside of the pint under warm water for about 30 seconds to loosen the edges.
  5. Process in the Ninja Creami. Place the pint in the outer bowl, install the Creamerizer Paddle, and lock the lid assembly onto the outer bowl. Set the bowl assembly on the motor base, twist the handle right to lock it in place, and select the Lite Ice Cream setting.
  6. Re-spin if needed. If your frozen yogurt is not as creamy as you would like after the first spin, use the re-spin setting to spin a second time. If needed after the second spin add a tablespoon of FairLife milk and re-spin for the smoothest, creamiest result. Pro tip: A second spin takes it from good to absolutely perfect every time.

Variations for Peach Ninja Creami Frozen Yogurt

  • Peach protein ice cream: Add a scoop of vanilla or unflavored protein powder to boost the protein content even more.
  • Dairy-free: Use your favorite dairy-free yogurt and coconut milk in place of the FairLife milk.
  • Canned peaches: Drain canned peaches well and use in place of fresh or frozen when peaches are not in season.
  • Peach cobbler frozen yogurt: Stir in a pinch of cinnamon and a few crumbled graham crackers after spinning for a fun peach cobbler twist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What Ninja Creami setting do I use for frozen yogurt?

A: Use the Lite Ice Cream setting for the best results with this peach frozen yogurt recipe. If it needs a second spin, just re-spin and it will come out perfectly smooth and creamy.

Q: Can I use regular yogurt instead of Greek yogurt in this recipe?

A: Greek yogurt is recommended because it is thicker and gives you a creamier result. Regular yogurt has more liquid and may affect the final texture. I have always had the best results with Chobani Zero Sugar Peach Greek Yogurt for this recipe.

Q: How long does homemade Ninja Creami peach frozen yogurt last in the freezer?

A: Once processed, store the pint back in the freezer with the lid on for up to two weeks. Let it sit on the counter for 10 minutes before re-spinning for the best creamy texture.
