Are Avocados in Guacamole Healthy?

  • Many nutritionists say that avocados and guacamole are healthy as they areNutrient-dense: Avocados are packed with nutrients, including fiber, vitamins C, E, K, and B6, and minerals like potassium and folate. They also contain healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.
  • Eating avocado recipes can be beneficial for your heart: The high levels of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats in avocados can help to lower LDL cholesterol (the “bad” cholesterol) and raise HDL cholesterol (the “good” cholesterol), which is beneficial for heart health.
  • May aid in weight management: Despite being relatively high in calories, avocados have been shown to help with weight management. This is likely due to their high fiber and healthy fat content, which can help you feel fuller for longer.
  • Avocado consumption may reduce inflammation: Avocados are rich in antioxidants, which can help to reduce inflammation in the body. Chronic inflammation is linked to a variety of health issues, including heart disease, cancer, and autoimmune disorders.
  • Versatile and delicious: Avocados are a tasty and versatile ingredient that can be used in a variety of recipes, from guacamole to smoothies to salads. They’re a great addition to any healthy diet and can be enjoyed in both sweet and savory dishes.

Ingredients need for Easy Guacamole Recipe for a Crowd

  • 5 avocados
  • 1/2 Vidalia onion
  • 1 Jalapeno
  • 2 Roma tomatoes
  • 1 medium orange juiced
  • 3 limes juiced
  • 1/2 cup of cilantro
  • Salt & Pepper
  • 2 or 3 green onions for garnish

Tips and Tricks for Making an Easy Guacamole

  • Start with chopping all the ingredients before you cut into the avocados. I use my chopper that makes small uniform veggies for an easy and consistent texture.
  • Have the limes and oranges juiced before you cup them into the avocados. Avocados can turn brown and not look attractive in your recipe if they are cut and left out in the open air. As soon as you start getting the avocado out of the skin you want it covered with lime and orange juice.
  • Choose ripe avocados: Ripe avocados should be slightly soft to the touch and give a little when gently squeezed. If they’re too hard, they won’t mash easily and if they’re overripe, they may be brown or stringy inside.
  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh ingredients make all the difference in guacamole. Use fresh limes, cilantro, garlic, onions, tomatoes, and jalapeno for the best flavor.
  • Mash the avocados well: Mash the avocados until they are mostly smooth but still have some chunks for texture. A fork or potato masher works well for this, but a food processor should be avoided as it can quickly turn the mixture into a puree.

Description

When it comes to party appetizers, few things are as universally beloved as a big bowl of freshly made guacamole. Creamy, tangy, and bursting with flavor, this classic dip is perfect for any occasion, from backyard barbecues to Mother’s day brunch, friends’ card parties, and graduation taco parties.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 5 avocados
  • 1/2 Vidalia onion
  • 1 Jalapeno
  • 2 Roma tomatoes
  • 1 medium orange juiced
  • 3 limes juiced
  • 1/2 cup of cilantro
  • Salt & Pepper
  • 2 or 3 green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. As with many recipes and especially with making fresh guacamole, start by getting all of the above ingredients out and together.Β
  2. First, chop into a small chop with a “Valdial Chopper” (or by hand) the onion, jalapeno, green onions, and Roma tomatoes and set aside.Β  (Same a small amount of the onion, jalapeno, and cilantro for garnish)
  3. Juice the limes and the orange and set aside.Β
  4. As avocados will brown quickly have the juices ready as you start to remove the avocados from the shell. Take your time a be slow in order to not get cut during this process.Β
  5. Slice around the whole seed that is inside each avocado and with a twist separate both sides.Β
  6. With the knife gently cut into the seed to lift it out, and knock the seed against a bowl or the side of the sink to loosen it off the knife. With a spoon scoop out the flesh of the avocado and put it in a large bowl.Β
  7. As each avocado is open and the flesh is put in the mixing bowl cover it with the juice to keep the avocado from turning brown.Β
  8. Take a fork and start mashing up the avocado. When you have the avocado to the texture you desire, add all the chopped ingredients as well as all of the juice. Reserving some of the onion, jalapeno, and cilantro for garnish.Β
  9. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  10. Mix well, and garnish with the onion, jalapeno, cilantro, and green onion on top.

Notes

  1. Serve with chips, pita bread, nan bread, or chopped vegetables.Β
