When I hear the name Salisbury Steak it brings back memories of metal TV trays, Metal TV dinners and watching movies with my family on our 3 TV channels. Flavorful tender beef patties in a perfect hearty gravy is a classic family dinner when I was a child.
Salisbury Steak was one of the first TV dinners (now called microwave dinners). Except they were metal and went in the oven. It started the same tradition of making foods that gave mom a break from the kitchen. Now we have slow cookers and Instant Pots that solve the same problem but allow us to serve our families simple whole foods without all the preservatives. A few simple ingredients that you can keep in stock in your kitchen make this go-to family dinner.

You will love the rich earthy mushrooms and that distinct Salisbury steak flavor and aroma. Maybe this simple weeknight dinner will bring back childhood memories for you. But you will surely want to make new memories for your family without spending hours standing over the stove.
The Instant Pot has changed the modern kitchen for busy working moms. We all want to have healthy dinners for our kids that are not made up of a lot of processed foods. But I know you do not have time after a busy day working to stand in the kitchen for an hour and make all your meals from scratch. The Instant Pot allows you to control all the ingredients that go into your foods, but it does all the work while you spend the evening with the family, not the stove.

How to make Salisbury Steak in the Slow Cooker
If you want to make this recipe in the slow cooker you can follow the same directions to make the steak patties. Spray the bottom of the slow cooker with spray oil so nothing sticks. Layer one large onion chopped into slices on the bottom of the slow cooker. Set the steak patties on top of the onions. Mix together the 2 cups of water the 2 packages of Brown Gravy mix. Pour this mixture over the steak patties. Put the lid on and cook on high for 5 to 6 hours.

Supplies Needed:

Yum, this meal does bring back memories and it looks so comforting! I don’t have an instant pot, but I do have a crockpot. I wonder if I could adapt it for a crockpot. Instant pots seem to be all the rage now though! Thank you for sharing this recipe at Fiesta Friday!
