Heading: Why You’ll Love This Ninja Creami Strawberry Ice Cream

  • Made with real fresh strawberries for bright, natural flavor in every bite
  • Only four simple ingredients you probably already have on hand
  • Works with skim milk, almond milk, oat milk, or regular half and half
  • Light and lower calorie without sacrificing that creamy texture
  • The whole family will love it, including the little ones

Each serving (half pint) comes in at around 175 calories with 3 grams of protein and just 1 gram of fat, making this one of the lightest homemade ice cream options you can make in a Ninja Creami.

Why I Love Making Homemade Strawberry Ice Cream with the Ninja Creami

When my kids were little, I tried making homemade ice cream with one of those large frozen drum machines. We had to freeze the bowl for days, wait 30 minutes for it to churn, and then a third of the ice cream stuck to the sides.

After one batch, that machine ended up in the basement. I think we used it three times total.

The Ninja Creami completely changed that. Now I keep pint containers frozen and ready, and I can have fresh creamy ice cream in minutes. When my granddaughters come over, I always have homemade flavors waiting for them, and this strawberry is one of their favorites.

What Makes the Ninja Creami So Easy to Use

I have learned a few things over the years of making this recipe that will save you time and give you the creamiest result every single time.

  • The Ninja Creami uses pint containers instead of a large frozen bowl
  • I keep several pints frozen, so ice cream is always ready
  • You can use skim milk, almond milk, coconut milk, oat milk, or protein shakes
  • Fresh, frozen, or canned fruit all work well
  • sits on the counter
  • extra pint containers
  • freezer-ready
  • ready in 1–2 minutes

What is the Ninja Creami

n my opinion, the Ninja Creami is the best ice cream machine I have ever owned, and after three years of using it, I have not changed my mind.

It makes all kinds of frozen desserts, including ice cream, sorbet, smoothie bowls, gelato, and milkshakes, using individual pint containers instead of a large frozen bowl. I have discovered over the years that keeping several pints frozen at once means homemade ice cream is always ready in no time.

Ninja Setting – What Recipe Are They For?

  • Ice Cream Setting: Use this recipe for decadent, rich, full-fat Ice Cream.
  • Light Ice Cream Setting: Use this setting for Ice Cream with low-fat and nondairy recipes.
  • Glaito Setting: This setting is for the Glaito recipe in the recipe book that comes with the Ninja Creami
  • Sorbet Button Setting: This setting turns the simplest fresh or canned fruit ingredients into smooth, light, low-fat sorbets. You can use apple sauce, canned mandarin oranges, canned pineapple, or any canned fruit.
  • Smoothie Bowl Setting: This setting makes nutritious smoothie bowls or lite ice cream. The smoothie bowls use yogurt or any fruit and fruit as the base.
  • Milk Shake Setting: This setting is used for creamy milkshakes with customized ingredients and flavors. (Our family favorite is chocolate ice cream with peanut powder, with milk for a chocolate peanut butter milkshake)
  • + Mix-In Setting: Use this setting after you have made your dessert and you want to add chocolate chips, candy bar pieces, nuts, fruit, or any chunky add-in.
  • Re-Spin: This setting is used when you have a very frozen pint container and the ice cream is a little grainy. The re-spin makes the dessert smooth and creamy. You can also let the container sit for 2 minutes and then re-spin for a softer-serve texture.

Ingredients For Strawberry Ice Cream:

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar (or monk fruit sweetener for a lower-calorie option)
  • 1 cup fat-free half and half (regular half and half or any milk works too)

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

  • Strawberries: Fresh strawberries give the brightest flavor. Frozen strawberries that have been thawed work well too. Make sure to drain any extra liquid before mashing so the base is not too thin.
  • Sweetener: White sugar gives a classic flavor. Monk fruit sweetener is a great swap to keep the calories lower. You also have the option to use agave, which blends in very smoothly.
  • Half and half: Fat-free half and half keeps this recipe light and still gives a creamy result. You can also use whole milk, skim milk, almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk depending on what you have on hand.

Susan’s Tips for the Best Results

  • I have learned a few things over the years of making this recipe that will save you time and give you the creamiest result every single time.
  • Do not overfill the pint container. Always stop at the max fill line. Overfilling causes machine errors and uneven spinning every time.
  • Freeze for the full 24 hours. I know 12 hours can work in a pinch, but the full 24 gives you the smoothest, creamiest texture. It is worth the wait.
  • Use Re-Spin if the texture looks crumbly. Do not worry if the first spin looks a little rough. Just place the lid back on, put it in the machine, and hit Re-Spin. It will come out perfectly creamy.

Heading: Equipment Needed

  • Fork or potato masher
  • Ninja Creami machine
  • Ninja Creami pint container with lid
  • Medium mixing bowl

How to Make Creamy Strawberry Ice Cream:

  1. Mash the strawberries. Add the fresh strawberries to a medium mixing bowl. Use a fork or potato masher to crush the berries into small pieces. You want some texture remaining, not a completely smooth puree. Pro tip: Smaller berry pieces give you a burst of real strawberry flavor in every bite.
  2. Add the sweetener and let it rest. Sprinkle the sugar or monk fruit sweetener over the mashed berries and let the mixture sit for 5 minutes. This draws out the natural strawberry juice and deepens the flavor throughout the base.
  3. Stir in the half and half. Pour in the fat-free half and half and stir until everything is well combined. The mixture will look loose and liquidy at this point, and that is exactly right.
  4. Fill the pint container. Pour the mixture into your Ninja Creami pint container, filling only to the max fill line. Place the lid on firmly. Pro tip: Always stop at the max line. Overfilling is one of the most common reasons ice cream does not spin evenly.
  5. Freeze for 24 hours. Place the sealed pint container in the freezer and let it freeze for a full 24 hours. Make sure it is sitting upright and level so the base freezes evenly.
  6. Set up the machine. Remove the pint from the freezer and take off the lid. Place the container into the outer bowl, secure the blade lid, then twist the outer bowl into the Ninja Creami base until it locks in place.
  7. Select your setting and spin. Turn on the Ninja Creami and select the Light Ice Cream setting for a lower-fat result, or the Ice Cream setting for a richer texture. Let the machine complete its full cycle.
  8. Check and re-spin if needed. Once the cycle finishes, open the lid and check the texture. If it looks crumbly, place it back in the machine and select Re-Spin. In no time you will have smooth, creamy strawberry ice cream ready to enjoy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the Ninja Creami Make Soft Serve?

A: Yes, the Ninja Creami makes a version of soft serve. If you let the pint sit out for 10 minutes before you spin it, you will get a delicious, creamy soft serve. I like to spin it a second time with the re-spin cycle to make the ice cream extra creamy.

Q: How Long Does the Ninja Creami take to make Ice Cream?

A: It takes at least 24 hours to have the mixture you create freeze in order to mix in the Ninja Creami machine. However, that being said, I mixed it 12 hours after I made the ice cream, and it still worked, just with a softer-serve texture.

Q: Can I use frozen strawberries in the Ninja Creami?

A: Yes, frozen strawberries work well in this recipe. Thaw them first and drain any extra liquid before mashing. The flavor is just as good as fresh, and it is a great option when fresh strawberries are not in season.

Q: Why is my Ninja Creami ice cream coming out crumbly?

A: A crumbly texture is very common and easy to fix. Just place the container back in the machine and select Re-Spin. If it is still crumbly, let the pint rest on the counter for 2 to 3 minutes and then re-spin again. It will come out smooth and creamy.
