This Naan Bread without yogurt is naturally vegan recipe and is made with just 4 ingredients. If you like pita bread, you will love this delightful traditional Indian bread. It is a perfect easy recipe for beginner bakers, as it turns out just perfect on the very first time. The goodness of homemade naan bread – soft, tender and delicious in every bite.

Homemade naan bread is becoming a favorite recipe in our house. We love to watch the little air pockets form as it is quickly cooked in a non-stick pan. Just add a little water to the pan that is on medium-high heat and the little rounds start to form little air pockets and soft brown spots.

The little rounds can be made by starting with a floured surface and small ball of dough. Roll into a smooth ball in your hands and then use a rolling pin to form the perfect little naan dough round.  Lets get started!

How to Make Easy Homemade Naan Bread

  1. In a small bowl warm the almond milk to room temperature, no more than 100°F. Using an instant read thermometer to make sure the milk is not too hot. 
  2. Sprinkle the dry yeast packet on top of the milk and add the maple syrup. Stir the yeast mixture and let sit for 15 minutes until there is bubbling on top. 
  3. In a large bowl add the white whole wheat flour and mix with a whisk, to break up any clump. Add the yeast mixture and stir with a fork to form a ball of soft dough. 
  4. Kneed for 5 minutes, cover the bowl and let rise for 45 minutes to 1 hour. 
  5. Divide the yeast dough into 6 small balls of dough.
  6. On a floured surface, roll the dough balls with a rolling pin to form a flat dish. 
  7. Heat a non-stick pan or cast iron pan to medium-high heat.
  8. Sprinkle a few drops of water in the pan and add one piece of the flat rolled dough at a time. 
  9. Cook each side for 2 to 3 minutes, until the bread starts to have little air pockets and brown spots. 
  10. Remove and set aside. Continue with each of the small balls of dough.

Naan bread is a soft Indian flatbread that is traditional to may Indian dishes. It is similar to pita bread but you can not stuff it. It is traditionally cooked over an open fire or in a Indian tandoor. But this easy naan recipe is cooked in a flat pan without any oil.

As for whether naan bread is vegan, it depends on the specific recipe used. Traditional naan recipes often include yogurt, which is not vegan as it is a dairy product. Additionally, some recipes may use ghee or butter as a brush on top of the cooked naan, which is also not vegan.

However, this easy recipe is vegan as it is made with no yogurt, and almond milk. This recipe is made to be vegan friendly for a healthy plant based diet.

How to Reheat Naan Bread?

I have found that our family loves to reheat the naan bread in our air fryer under the toast setting. I am simply reheating to a warm soft texture but not making it to toast.

Naan bread can also be keep in the refrigerator in a plastic freezer bag or airtight container for 3 to 4 days.

Can You Freeze Naan Bread?

Yes you can freeze homemade naan bread. It is a good way to keep leftovers if you make a double batch. Place the naan bread in a plastic freezer bag or airtight container and take get as much air out as you can. The frozen naan bread will keep for up to a month.
