Why Salisbury Steak Works for Modern Family Dinners
When I hear the name Salisbury steak, it brings back memories of metal TV trays, old TV dinners, and watching movies with my family on just three TV channels. Flavorful, tender beef patties covered in rich gravy were a classic family dinner when I was growing up.
Salisbury steak was one of the very first TV dinners, long before microwaves were common. They came in metal trays and went straight into the oven. Back then, it was all about giving mom a break from the kitchen. Today, we use slow cookers and Instant Pots to do the same thing, but with simple, whole ingredients. This homemade Salisbury steak uses pantry staples and is an easy dinner you can make any night of the week.
You will love the rich, earthy mushrooms and that familiar Salisbury steak flavor simmered in mushroom gravy. This is the kind of hearty meal that brings back comforting memories while still fitting into a busy schedule. It works just as well for a cozy weekend dinner as it does for a simple weeknight meal.
The Instant Pot has changed how many of us cook for our families. We want healthy meals made from real food, not overly processed shortcuts. But after a long day, standing over the stove is not always realistic. The Instant Pot lets you control every ingredient while it cooks an easy Salisbury steak ground beef dinner for you, giving you more time to enjoy the evening with your family.
Wanting the flavors I remembered but not the time at the stove, I started adapting slow cooker versions of this recipe. This best Salisbury steak recipe quickly became a favorite in our house, and I think it will become one of your go-to Salisbury steak recipes, too.

Yum, this meal does bring back memories and it looks so comforting! I don’t have an instant pot, but I do have a crockpot. I wonder if I could adapt it for a crockpot. Instant pots seem to be all the rage now though! Thank you for sharing this recipe at Fiesta Friday!
