Thanksgiving day always runs smoother when you write it down first.

This free printable gives you one spot for your menu and your cooking schedule, so you are not doing math in your head while the turkey is in the oven. It fits right on your counter next to your recipe cards, and it works whether you are feeding six people or twenty.

I have used a version of this in my own kitchen for years, and it is the one thing I never host without.

Why Every Host Needs a Written Schedule

Hosting Thanksgiving dinner means juggling more dishes than any other meal of the year. The turkey needs the oven for hours, but so do your sides, and everything has to land on the table warm at the same time.

A hosting thanksgiving checklist you carry in your head falls apart the moment the doorbell rings. A hosting thanksgiving checklist on paper does not.

Pro tip: Fill this out the week before with a cup of coffee, not the morning of. You will thank yourself later.

What’s Inside the Planner

  • Today’s Menu. Six blank lines at the top to list every dish you are serving.
  • Morning column. Time blocks from 6 AM in 15 minute increments, so you can write in exactly what starts when.
  • Afternoon and evening column. Time blocks running through the rest of the day, so nothing overlaps in the oven.
  • One clean page. Print it, tape it inside a cabinet, and check things off as you go.

How to Use Your Thanksgiving Day Schedule

  1. Fill in your menu first. Write every dish you are making in the Today’s Menu box at the top.
  2. Work backward from your serving time. Decide when you want to eat, then write each dish’s start time on the timeline, counting back from there.
  3. Give the turkey the most room. It needs the longest cook time and usually a rest before carving, so pencil that in first.
  4. Fill in the rest around it. Sides, rolls, and reheating slot into the gaps you have left.
