The gardens are in, and the lawn and beds look fabulous. Hanging baskets are up and the flowers are in their pots on our deck. Summer is full swing, and we are starting to think of dates to plan barbecues with family and friends.

However, if youβre anything like I am, while the outside of the house has been getting spruce up for the last month, the inside to have sort of gone to rack and ruin. I love being outside and my husband and I love to work together on our beautiful yard and deck, but usually at the end of the day Iβm too tired to pick up and clean up.
So now is the time before all those barbecues start that I need to declutter and organize the inside rooms. With kids home from school and starting to enjoy summer vacation, trips to parks, or your local pool, there is not enough time to spend hours cleaning the house all at once.
We also donβt want to feel overwhelmed and stressed during the beautiful months of summer, thatβs why the one small step approach is perfect to achieve summer fun and home organization all at the same time.

Start each day with one small step of decluttering a tiny space or location in your house. Pick one small area that is a little bigger that will take a little more time and plan it for the one small step a week task.
Print off these beautiful Sunflower Summer Time Management Time Blocking Free Printable Worksheets. Just take it one day and one week at a time. I like to use strong card stock. A thicker paper keeps my weekly plan from getting lost in all other papers. I also like to use beautiful colored pens (my all-time favorite), sort of like adult coloring.
In the goal section for the week, write down the main areas of your home that cause the most stress.Β Pick one per week and tackle that one area. Write in on your schedule in the blocks of time that are not filled with appointments, work, and activitiesΒ that cannot be changed.Β
Look for the time periods where you have open blocks of time to tackle each one small area a day.Β You will be surprised at how much you can accomplish with the mindset of just one small area a day and one area a week.
As we are starting to plan family & friends coming for barbecues, my first week One Small Step is going to be the Living Room. We have a great room which is the living room and dining room combined. I know from past experience, if I take one small area each day it will be ready for the weekend.
