This year I thought it would be fun if we made our apple cider donuts. Our kids love to bake at home and this is a perfect recipe for baking together. The doughnut batter is made easy with a convenient boxed cake mix and the glaze is simple with pure maple syrup, melted butter with powdered sugar.
This easy cake mix donut recipe can be made with just a few simple ingredients you probably already have in your pantry. A box of spice cake mix, effortlessly transformed into delicious cake mix donuts.
After the donuts come out of the oven and they cool on a baking rack they are so simple to decorate. Just top with your favorite colorful sprinkles and you have a fun treat that is a crowd-pleaser for both kids and the entire family.

I’ve always wanted to make donuts but didn’t want to deal with cooking them in hot oil. Not only would this be less healthy, it would be a burn risk with small children in the house.
I was so happy to find a baked donut pan, for my recipe for Easy Apple Cider donuts. Using a boxed cake mix for the donut batter simplifies the recipe even more. With minimal ingredients and a lot of fun, my kids and I can have delicious apple cider donuts in no time.
We also love frosted donuts with a simple glaze. Our family’s favorite is Maple glaze the perfect sweet glaze, but a simple vanilla glaze is also delicious. In a pinch, you can also use a store-bought frosting.

- 3 whole eggs
- Light olive oil
- Apple cider
- 2 tablespoons of melted butter
- Pure maple syrup

How to Make Baked Cider Cake Mix Donuts
Here is a step-by-step instructions for the simplest way to make baked apple cider donuts with a delicious maple glaze.
First: Follow the instructions on your boxed cake mix. My cake mix called for three whole eggs 1/4 cup of vegetable oil and one cup of water. Therefore for this recipe with a Duncan Hines spice cake mix mixed together in the stand mixer the cake mix, 3 whole eggs 1/4 cup of light olive oil, and 3/4 cup of apple cider. Mix until all ingredients are incorporated do not over-mix.

Next: Transfer the donut batter into an extra large Ziploc bag securing the top to make sure the battery doesn’t leak out.

With the Ziploc bag sealed cut a small hole at the tip of one corner and ill the wells of the donut pan only half full.

How to Make Maple Glaze for Baked Donuts
Mix: To make the Maple Glaze: melt 2 tablespoons of butter and mix the butter, confectioner’s sugar, maple syrup, and string until smooth. Start mixing and a small mixing bowl with just a fork and ask the ingredients to incorporate use and whisk to make sure there are no lumps and you have a smooth glaze.
Glaze: Make sure the donuts are completely cool before you try to glaze them, apply a little amount of glaze with an offset spatula or knife.

Ingredients
- Spray Oil
- 1 spice cake box mix Dunkin Hynes
- 3 eggs
- 1/4 cup light olive oil
- 3/4 cup apple cider
For the Maple Glaze
- 2 tablespoons of melted butter
- 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 cup of confectioners’ suger
Instructions
- In a stand mixer or with a hand mixer mix together the cake mix, 3 eggs, 1/4 cup of light olive oil, and 3/4 cup of apple cider. Mix for about 2 minutes until smooth. Do not over-mix.
- In a baking donut pan spray liberly with spray oil all the donut sections.
- Transfer the batter to a large ziplock bag. (This is an easy way to get the batter in the pan)
- Fill each section of the baking pan with batter about 1/2 way, do not overfill.
- Bake at 350° for 10 to 12 minutes. Use a toothpick to make sure they are baked.
- Let cook in the pan for 1 minute. Then remove gently with a spoon or flip over onto a cooling rack.
- To make the Maple Glaze: melt 2 tablespoons of butter and mix the butter, confectioner’s sugar, maple syrup, and string until smooth.
- Frost the donuts with the Maple Glaze when the donuts are completely cooled.
