In doing a quick look on the internet you can find that the tradition of eating sauerkraut and pork on New Year’s day and the week after, started in Germany. Many of the traditions I learned growing up involved the German traditions and we always started January out by eating Sauerkraut. Jim’s family also had this tradition, so naturally, this year, as all of the Januarys in our marriage, started out with Sauerkraut and Turkey Sausage. Pork is good luck for the New Year, but I do not believe the superstition police will fault us for substituting turkey as we are watching our weight.

In the ever ending battle to eat healthily, our family no longer eats many pork products. We have switched almost all are pork recipes to Turkey versions. We have been eating turkey bacon for years, and when a recipe calls for sausage I always replace it with turkey sausage. So for New Year’s day, this year I swapped out the sausage and sauerkraut and sausage for our regular go-to Turkey sausage. Jenny O is one of my favorite turkey products and I also often use Hillshire Farm.

My electric pressure cooker makes this dish a snap to make on New Year’s Day. We are often exhausted from the holiday events but need a hearty warm meal to confront the huge task of taking down all the Christmas decorations. When the weather is warm, as it was this year we start on the outside.
Supplies Needed:
Simple Step by Step
The first step is to take the bag of sauerkraut, rinsed it, and placed it in the Instant Pot. I cubed my sausage and mixed it in. My mother’s tradition for sauerkraut is always to add Caraway Seeds, so I added a teaspoon of caraway seeds and stirred. Make sure to add 1/2 cup of water so that the Instant Pot will create steam.
The next step is to lock the lid, turn the dial to 10 minutes, and your hands-free sauerkraut and sausage cook itself. We went outside and started removing some of the outdoor lights, and when we were done the dish was on keep warm ready to eat. The smell of cook sauerkraut and caraway seeds Bring back fond memories of holidays past and relaxing days after Christmas and enjoying family.
I hope you will find this quick and easy Electric Pressure Cooker recipe one your family will love as this recipe is one that is easy to assemble and serve.

Bloggers Pit Stop
Visiting from the Bloggers Pit Stop – I’ve never used a pressure cooker – I’m afraid it will explode!! But your recipe looks really good
With the Electric Pressure Cooker you do not have to worry. The lid will not open until the pressure is released. And it will not build pressure if you do not put the lid on correctly. So much safer than the old ones.
