I never get tired of seeing the smiling faces of my kids as we make bake and eat the cookies warm from the oven. Kids get so excited when you are baking cookies, and so will your husband. Make sure to make a double batch as the first 9 cookies will disappear off the cooking rack as soon as they are cooled off enough to eat.

Tips For Making Heart Shaped Red Velvet Cake Mix Cookies

I usually make the dough ahead as it needs to firm up in the fridge. Katie was always ready to help mix and encouraged me to make a double batch. Christene and Joey were more excited about cutting out the shapes and Christene, Katie, and Joey loved to be creative with the sprinkles. We add the sprinkles before baking refrigerates for 15 minutes to firm up and then bake.

In my childhood, my mother would frost the cookies when cooled with a simple frosting of powdered sugar, a teaspoon of vanilla, and milk. This makes a smooth spreading frosting that you could leave white, use food coloring to tint, and or add sprinkles on top.

Making cookies for every holiday gets kids excited about baking. And learning to bake is the first step in teaching your kids to cook. Cooking for yourself and your family is a life skill that will serve your children their whole life. And your future sons-in-law and daughters-in-law will thank you.

In our family, my mother suffered from heart problems and for many years my dad was the chief. He grew up with his grandmother who owned a bar/dinner in Cleveland Ohio. My father, as soon as he was old enough, was back in the kitchen cooking for the bar. My sister and I were sure thankful that our Great Grandmother taught our father how to cook. We always had good healthy meals when our mother was not well.
